More news about: Muhlenberg

The Susquehanna football team forced six turnovers, two in the fourth quarter after scoring the go-ahead touchdown, and defeated Muhlenberg 14-11 to pick up its first Centennial Conference win of the season.

The Mules (2-1, 1-1) outgained the River Hawks (2-1, 1-1) by 93 yards and forced three turnovers of their own, including interceptions on back-to-back plays by Nate Corvil.

Nick Crusco threw for 145 yards and a touchdown while running for another score for Susquehanna. No runner gained more than 42 yards and no receiver caught more than four passes in a game dominated by the defenses.

Susquehanna's two biggest plays came on consecutive plays, with Crusco hitting Mikah Christian on passes of 39 and 31 yards, the latter resulting in a touchdown with 10:24 left in the fourth. Crusco caught the two-point conversion pass on a trick play to give the River Hawks a three-point cushion.

Muhlenberg extended its ensuing drive with a fake punt, but on the next play Matt Gibbon was picked off by Jason Brougham.

After exchanges of punts, the Mules started their final drive on their own 9 with 1:52 to play. Michael Hnatkowsky's first pass was picked off by Connor Thompson, and the River Hawks ran out the clock.

Thompson finished with 10 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a sack to go along with his game-sealing pick.

After a first quarter that featured four interceptions, the Mules got on the board first on a 26-yard field goal by Todd Spirt with 9:45 left in the half.

The game appeared to be headed to halftime with a 3-0 score, but a fumbled punt by Muhlenberg with 28.5 seconds left gave Susquehanna life. Four plays later, Crusco ran in a quarterback draw from 5 yards out for a 6-3 lead.

Muhlenberg reclaimed the lead with its lone touchdown, a 15-yard pass from Gibbon to Max Kirin with 6:13 to play in the third.

Gibbon threw for 147 yards and ran for 42 for the Mules, while Hnatkwosky went 7-for-12 for 90 yards.
