Saturday's early action in the Top 25 was highlighted by a pair of overtime games involving ranked teams. Ben Wartman carried 16 times for 122 yards after halftime, including the game-winning touchdown in the extra session as the Tommies improved to 5-0 and defeated the archrival Johnnies for the first time since 1997.

Freshman running back Joel Sweeney got back on track for No. 18 UW-Eau Claire, scoring a 16-yard touchdown in overtime to cap a 109-yard day on the ground in a 20-13 win against UW-Stevens Point.  Sweeney was also the Blugolds' leading receiver with 120 yards.

The other top 25 showdowns were not as close.  No. 2 Mount Union shut down the Ohio Northern offense, blanking the No. 8 Polar Bears 27-0 and holding Kyle Simmons to 85 passing yards in the process.  Aaron Boehme threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more as No. 16 Linfield dominated No. 15 Willamette 35-7.

Josh McKee caught six passes for 172 yards and a touchdown but No. 7 Wittenberg needed a late stop to hold on and defeat Oberlin 27-21 on the road.  No. 6 Coe survived on a windy day at Dubuque, winning 24-22 on a day in which the Spartans had a punt go for minus-3 yards.  Bronson Shaw intercepted Louisiana College in the end zone to preserve No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor's 42-38 victory over the Wildcats. Redlands turned the ball over four times and failed on two two-point conversions, but still had a chance to win at the end until No. 23 Cal Lutheran blocked a 40-yard field goal attempt to preserve its 24-22 victory.

Austin Faulkner completed 17 of 22 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns and Drake Sanders ran for 112 yards and two more scores as No. 25 Randolph-Macon improved to 5-0. The Yellow Jackets scored 20 unanswered points to start the second half and handed Emory and Henry its first loss 34-22.
