December 28, 2003 Muhlenberg makes it a race The Centennial Conference race is now in full-fledged barnburner status after Muhlenberg knocked off No. 20 Johns Hopkins 14-6. The Mules became the first team this season to score two offensive touchdowns in the first half over the Blue Jays, and Matt Bernardo became the first player to score twice over JHU. Bernardo’s two touchdown runs of 47 and 3 yards capped a day in which he carried 33 times for 135 yards.

December 9, 2003 A trying weekend in Williamsport With a large mound of ice in the center of the field and the surface blanketed with snow, the NCAA made a decision to postpone the contest until Sunday. Few at David Person Field that morning knew of the deteriorating condition of Ricky Lannetti.

November 18, 2003 Region gets surprise headed into playoffs The Mid-Atlantic Region has the opportunity to shine in the South Region playoffs this year. Beyond that ... anyone's guess. Lycoming takes the top seed, surprising many (including D3football.com) who believed the South Region flowed through Virginia. Christopher Newport's loss to Ferrum eliminated the Captains from consideration for the bye. Bridgewater's only loss was to 7-2 CNU, a four-point loss at POMOCO Stadium. Lycoming's lone notch in the "L" column came at home against up-and-coming Delaware Valley.

November 11, 2003 Heading down the stretch After 10 brutal weeks, with some surprises and some staples, we reach the all-important Week 11. Almost more important than this week is what happens after the games are finished, at the war room in Indianapolis. Regardless, it will be fun!

November 4, 2003 Hampden-Sydney survives scare The 17th ranked Tigers of Hampden-Sydney (7-1) found themselves in a 13-point third-quarter deficit against Dickinson (2-5) and rebounded to score a nail-biting 21-20 win against the Red Devils. One of the top five offenses in the country, Hampden-Sydney was held to 350 yards of total offense.

October 21, 2003 Hopkins stellar in passing midseason test The lights at Homewood Field were bright Friday night for the Centennial Conference’s midseason showdown, pitting Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins. Only in the final minutes did Gettysburg score, keeping JHU from recording its fourth shutout of the season.

October 15, 2003 Crowds get a great show Through the first six weeks in the season, five teams remain undefeated in the south region -- and three of those are within the Mid-Atlantic sub-region. Johns Hopkins, Lycoming, and Salisbury claim these spots and the potential road to the playoffs continues to take shape.

Isabel’s wrath cancelled the Captains’ home opener against Muhlenberg and most players assumed a new role: cleanup crew.

September 23, 2003 Isabel's on-field impact could extend to November Hurricane Isabel, which pounded the Mid-Atlantic region last week, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, took its toll on the gridiron as well. Four games were lost due to the inclement conditions. Chowan’s home game against Ferrum was postponed.

September 15, 2003 CNU finally gets signature win The newly named USA South Conference has garnered its share of the headlines in the first two weeks of the season. Last week, Chowan recorded one of the best non-conference wins in the program's history knocking off Randolph-Macon, breaking a 10-game losing skid.

September 9, 2003 Game lives up to billing for USAC fans While there were no upsets of ranked teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region, there are certainly plenty of stories to share from Saturday.
