Geneva's senior class has spent their entire career in transition from NAIA to Division III, with no hope of the playoffs and only some scant postseason recognition. But they play on.
Four years ago, this year’s crop of seniors had to adjust to the college game under a head coach that was new to the program and also deal with a stigma of joining a Heidelberg team that had gone 1-39 over four years under a previous coaching regime.
“Right now, Mike’s playing very poised,” said Adrian coach Jim Deere. “He’s not making very many mistakes and is seeing the field very well. He does have a great arm, so he’s doing a great job."
Longtime coach Rich Lackner does not have just one or two running backs he can depend on. He has five players who have gotten a substantial amount of work out of the backfield.
“It’s been a tough start to our season,” said the Allegheny senior quarterback. “We had great expectations and we definitely still do to finish out the season. We played Wittenberg tough and then, we played tough at Case Western."
"He’s a big-play guy. Every time he touches the ball, he’s got a chance to go the distance. As a return guy, running the ball or catching the ball, he’s a threat any time the ball is in his hands. I think that’s important."
