QB Joe Callahan, So., Wesley
In his first career start and first appearance
since 2011, Callahan broke school-records for completions (37) and
passing yards (510) in No. 5 Wesley's come-from-behind victory over
No. 20 Widener. He was 37-for-52 passing and did not throw an
interception.
OL Fr. Andrew Konieczny, Sr. Cory
Strasser, Sr. Chad Thompson, So. Matt Green, So. Bob
Rose, Augsburg
Augsburg's offensive line, with just one starter returning from
last season (Thompson), protected an offense that produced 606
yards of total offense in the Auggies' 51-17 win at Concordia
(Wis.). Augsburg averaged 9.2 yards per offensive play (66 plays),
with 309 rushing yards and 297 passing yards. Concordia recorded no
sacks and just three tackles for-loss against the Auggies.
RB Steven Webb, Sr.,
Hobart
Webb rushed for a career-high 207 yards and three touchdowns,
single-handedly outrushing Dickinson by 80 yards and outscoring
them 18-7. He was not brought down behind the line of scrimmage on
any of his 19 carries, averaging 10.9 yards per rush. Webb took his
second handoff of the day 51 yards to the house and also scored
from 1 and 14 yards out. Saturday marked Webb's ninth career
100-yard rushing game and third in a row.
RB Melikke Van Alstyne, Sr., Framingham
State
Van Alstyne picked up where he left off last year, rushing for 214
yards on 38 carries in a 35-23 win at Endicott. With his team
leading 21-16, Van Alstyne rushed for 52 yards on the opening drive
of the second half, a drive that took seven minutes off the clock
and resulted in a touchdown.
WR Dylan Rimsky, Sr.,
Nichols
Rimsky set school records for receptions (14) and receiving yards
(290) in the Bison's 28-27 overtime win against Westfield State.
Rimsky hauled in a 63-yard touchdown reception in the third
quarter, then caught a 32-yard pass in overtime to put the Bison in
front for good. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak to
Westfield State and also gave the Bison their first win in a season
opener since 2007.
WR Steven Koudossou, Jr.,
Wesley
In Wesley's come from behind win, Koudossou set school records for
receptions (17) and receiving yards (266) and also tied the school
mark with four touchdowns.
WR Holton Walker, Jr., Hampden-Sydney
Walker had the best game of his career while breaking the
Hampden-Sydney mark for receiving yards in a game when he caught 14
passes for 235 yards and two scores. His 14 receptions rank second
all-time in school history, and his 235 yards are fifth-best in
ODAC history. His two scores went for 56 yards and 48
yards.
Defense
DE Eric Butler, Jr., Thomas
More
Butler helped anchor a Saints' defense which held Capital to 190
yards of total offense (147 yards rushing and 43 yards passing). He
had 10 total tackles (three solo, seven assisted), including three
and a half tackles for loss.
DT Mitch Montgomery, Sr.,
Coe
Montgomery intercepted a pass with 1:56 to play, sealing the
Kohawk victory. He also blocked a PAT early in the game, which
ended up a 23-22 Coe victory. Montgomery added four tackles,
including a tackle for loss.
DT Jon Turner, So., Washington and
Jefferson
Turner made a strong impression in his first career start with
nine tackles (eight solo) and two sacks. Both of his sacks came on
third down and forced Wooster punts.
DE Korey Steward, Sr., Mary
Hardin-Baylor
Steward had six total tackles and a career-high three and a half
tackles for loss in the win at Redlands. He also posted a
career-high two sacks in the victory. Steward helped anchor a
defensive line that limited the Bulldogs to just 35 rushing yards
in the game.
LB Ben Cunningham, Fr.,
Hendrix
Cunningham registered 10 tackles, two for a loss, and sack that
caused a fumble – which he recovered. The fumble recovery set
up a Hendrix touchdown in the first quarter.
LB Jeremy Demlow, Sr.,
Cornell
Demlow matched his career high for tackles in a game (14, eight of
them solo) as the Rams rolled to a 45-15 win vs. Lawrence, their
largest season-opening victory since 2001. He had three and a half
tackles for loss, one sacks and a forced fumble.
LB Michael Juberian, Jr.,
Augsburg
In his first game at Augsburg after transferring from St. Thomas,
Michael Juberian recorded a team-best 10 tackles, including two
tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble, in Augsburg's 51-17
win at Concordia (Wis.). His forced fumble in the first quarter
gave the Auggies the ball at the Concordia 39-yard line, and four
plays later, the Auggies scored their first touchdown of the game,
taking a 10-0 lead. He also had a sack in the first quarter for a
loss of 11 yards.
CB Craig Bailey, Sr.,
Pacific
Bailey had two interceptions against Adrian, each of which led to
touchdowns in the Boxers' 20-10 defeat of the defending MIAA
champions. His first came on just the second play of the game,
which Pacific converted into a touchdown on its first series. The
second came with 4:30 left in the first half, leading a
momentum-boosting score that gave Pacific a 13-7 halftime lead.
Bailey also earned credit for three tackles, two solo.
S Ty Keenum, Jr.,
Birmingham-Southern
Keenum had two interceptions in BSC's win against LaGrange on
Saturday. One of those he took 42 yards to the end zone for a
touchdown. He totaled 72 return yards over the two interceptions,
as well as six tackles (all solo) and a pass breakup.
S Drew Peterson, Sr.,
Albright
Peterson intercepted two passes in a 30-14 victory over Kean. It
was his third career multi-interception game. Peterson took his
first pick back for a touchdown but had the score nullified due to
a holding penalty. Albright defense held Kean to 22 yards of total
offense and 0 points in the first half.
CB Ed Dobernig, Sr., Lake
Forest
Dobernig forced two turnovers as the Foresters prevailed over
Concordia-Chicago 45-3. The Foresters limited the Cougars to 185
total yards on the day. He also had six tackles, all of them
solo.
Special teams
K Daniel Sobolewski, So.,
Albright
Sobolewski made three of four field goals; connecting from 40, 34
and 27 yards; in Albright's 30-14 win over Kean. His only miss was
from 48 yards, which would have been a school record. He was
perfect on three PATs, had one touchback and put five of his seven
kickoffs into the end zone.
P Aaron Koford, Sr.,
Pacific
Although Koford averated just 31.5 yards per punt on six punts,
five were inside the 20 and three landed inside the 10, including
one on the 2-yard line and one on the 1. That included a long punt
of 43 yards and no touchbacks.
ST Cole Crook, Fr,, Louisiana
College
Crook blocked two Belhaven punts and helped the Louisiana
College special teams hold the Blazers to a 29.4-yard punt
average.
RET Justin Swider, Sr., Wheaton
(Ill.)
Swider ran for a career-best 93-yard touchdown on a kickoff
return to give Wheaton the lead for good in Saturday's win at
Benedictine. The Eagles had just scored a touchdown to take a 13-10
lead before Swider's scamper shifted the momentum.
