LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee University Michael F. Walsh Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that Bobby Jones '14 has stepped down as the Associate Head Football Coach and Offensive Coordinator to accept the head football coach position at Archbiship Curley High School in Baltimore, Md. 

"I want to thank Bobby for the many ways he gave of himself to make us better. He chose to be involved and engaged in this community out of an abiding love for it, and he has set a great example of living out what you believe. He will be missed," said Hathorn. 

Jones, a 2014 graduate of Washington and Lee, earned three All-ODAC and two first team All-State citations while helping the Generals claim Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships in 2010 and 2012. He joined head coach Garrett LeRose '07 as a full-time assistant in 2018 and was elevated to associate head coach prior to the 2022 season. In his time at W&L, the Generals have amassed a record of 32-19 (.593) over the last five seasons, winning the ODAC Championship in 2021 and making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

"As I leave Washington and Lee University I am filled with an immense sense of gratitude. Since my playing days, I have always considered Lexington my home and I still do. There are countless people to thank but I would like to thank Jan Hathorn and Garrett LeRose for the opportunity to be part of this program and providing me with so many opportunities to learn and grow. I would also like to thank the entire student affairs staff led by Sidney Evans and Tami Futrell for serving our students and program so selflessly" said Jones.

The Blue and White's multi-faceted, run-heavy offense has been one of the nation's leaders since Jones joined the staff in 2018. As the offensive coordinator, Jones' offense ranked sixth in rushing offense with 273.2 yards per game in 2022 while having the fourth-best rushing attack this past season, averaging 228.4 yards on the ground. The Generals' offense led the nation in passes intercepted (0), ranked third in sacks allowed (4), 13th in time of possession (33:15) and 14th in red zone offense (.881) this season.

"The young men I have coached were the best part of my job, they made coming to work everyday a joy. The players make this program so special, and I am so grateful to have been a small part of their journey here on their road to immeasurable success. During his time with the Blue and White, Jones has coached 21 All-ODAC selections, five D3football.com All-Region players and saw Anthony Crawford '27 earn conference Rookie of the Year honors this past season.

"Coach Jones's departure marks the end of his second chapter at W&L, yet his legacy will endure both on the field and within our community. His leadership, not only in football but also in university initiatives, leaves a lasting impact including the 2021 ODAC championship. While we bid farewell to Coach Jones, Riley, and Cooper, we eagerly anticipate their journey ahead. We'll be cheering for their success at Archbishop Curley and are grateful for the indelible mark he left on our football family" said LeRose.
