Today's Contest
This the eight game of the 2023 season,the fifth home game and seventh Ohio Athletic Conference game for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it hosts Capital University on Parents' and Family Day. BW posted its first shutout victory since the 2016 as it defeated Otterbein University by a final score of 24-0 last Saturday in Westerville. Capital lost a 63-17 game to No. 14 nationally ranked John Carroll University last  Saturday in Bexley

The Series
BW and Capital are meeting for the 54th time on the gridiron.  The Yellow Jackets hold a 41-12  series lead, including winning the last five contests and nine of the last 10 meetings. The series began in 1928 when Capital defeated BW, 19-0, in Bexley.  Capital's last victory in was in 2016 when it posted a 42-41 overtime victory as the Yellow Jackets 2-point conversion for the victory came up short. The last time the Comets won in Berea was during the 2011 season when they won by a final score of 14-11

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert
Hilvert is in his seventh  season at BW and has a record of  40-19 and Ohio Athletic Conference slate of 44-17. He is 107-45 in his 15th overall season.   Hilvert is 5-0 all-time  versus Capital.

Capital Head Coach Brian Foos
Foos, who is in his fourth season at Capital, is no stranger to BW as he served as offensive coordinator on Hilvert's staff from 2016-18. Foos has an overall record of 3-28  and an OAC mark of 2-26.  He is 0-3 against Baldwin Wallace as the Yellow Jackets and Comets did not play in the COVID-19 shortened season of 2021 spring.

Last Game vs. Capital-- October 29,  2022
BW scored 48 points on 273 yards rushing and 206 yards passing for 479 total yards.  Capital  scored seven  points on 130  yards passing and 44 yards passing for 174 total yards. 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week seven of the season, BW scored 24 points on 246 yards rushing and 102 yards passing for 348 total yards.  Otterbein was held scoreless on 106 yards passing, minus nine yards rushing and 97 total yards.

BW Leaders
Offensively, freshman quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) has completed 14-of-27 passes for 213 yards with two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Joey Marousek (North Royalton), who started six games, including last week, has completed 98-of-171 passes for an OAC seventh best 1221 yards with 11 touchdowns. Junior  running back Victor Ford, Jr. (Cleveland/Shaker Heights) leads the ground game with an OAC sixth best 466 yards on 78 carries with an OAC seventh best five touchdowns.  Sophomore running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) has rushed for an OAC eighth best 399 yards on 86 carries with three touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon) leads the receiving unit with 23 catches for 218 yards with two touchdowns. Senior Darius Stokes (Canton/GlenOak), who is also starting at corner back, is second on the team with 18 catches for 219 yards with two touchdowns Defensively, senior All-OAC linebacker Mason Levasseur (Panama City, Fla./South Walton) leads the team and is second in the OAC with 70 tackles. Freshman defensive back Marquee Vereen (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Technical) is third in the OAC with a team leading eight pass breakups.

Scouting the Comets
In week seven of the season, Capital scored 17 points on 187  yards passing and 58 yards rushing for 245 total yards.  John Carroll scored 63 points on 278 yards passing and 261 yards rushing for 539 total yards.

Capital Leaders
Offensively, senior quarterback Ben Everson has completed 79-of-149 passes for and OAC fifth best 1232 yards with a OAC fourth best 15 touchdowns. Sophomore running back Troi McClary has rushed for 193 yards on 42 carries with two touchdowns.  Senior wide receiver Mike Elmore has caught 23 passes for an OAC third best 478 with an OAC sixth best tying five touchdowns.  Defensively, junior safety Tyson Shutler leads the team and is third in the OAC with 69 tackles and is tied for seventh in the OAC with five pass breakups.

Seniors' Day
BW will honor its seniors when the Yellow Jackets host Heidelberg University in the home finale on November 4.  Prior to the game , the University, will recognize the  senior football student-athletes along with their parents and guardians will be recognized.  At halftime, the University, will honor its senior members of the marching back and cheer team.
