WestConn Football Cruises Past Framingham State

More news about: Western Connecticut

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Junior quarterback Keion Jones (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns to guide the Western Connecticut State University football squad to a 56-34 victory at MASCAC foe Framingham State University on Saturday afternoon at Bowditch Field. Rookie wide receiver Dae'Shawn Allen (White Plains, N.Y.) notched six catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while graduate student running back Chad Blaszky (Selden, N.Y.) provided the punch from the ground, rushing for 112 yards on 25 carries, while racking up three scores (two rushing and one receiving).

It marked the third consecutive win for the Wolves along with their third-straight game racking up over 50 points. With the victory, WestConn improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Rams fell to 3-3 and 2-2.

The visitors opened play with an 11-play 59-yard drive to strike for an early lead. Blaszky capped the march downfield with a 1-yard push into the end zone.

The hosts retaliated in the second quarter when senior running back Devaun Ford (Mashpee, Mass.) scampered in from 18 yards away. However, the Rams would miss the ensuing two-point rush attempt, leaving WestConn with a 7-6 lead.

The Wolves aerial assault then began. Jones hooked up with Allen for a 60-yard scoring play. Shortly thereafter, the dynamic duo connected once again when Jones hit Allen on the first play of the drive for a 48-yard touchdown, stretching the WestConn advantage to 21-13 at halftime.

Jones notched this third scoring strike of the afternoon when he found junior wide out Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) from 28 yards out for the lone points in the third quarter, widening the gap to 28-13.

The offensive barrage sparked up once again in the fourth quarter. Blaszky took a 30-yard feed from Jones and found the end zone before Jones leaped in from a yard out to make it 42-20. WestConn sophomore Michael DeFelice (New Windsor, N.Y.) then intercepted a Ram pass setting up yet another big play as Jones found Allen from 45 yards out less than 30 seconds after his previous touchdown. Blaszky rounded out the WestConn output when he sprinted in for a 41-yard run. The hosts answered with a three-yard score but it was too little to late as WestConn secured the 56-34 win.

The Wolves will seek to keep things moving in a strong and positive direction when they square up with Massachusetts Maritime Academy in another league battle at the Westside Athletic Complex on Friday at 7 p.m.
