Brockport Has Dominant Defensive Performance in 6th Straight I-90 Bowl Win

Brockport, NY – Brockport dominated Buffalo State, 54-2, for its sixth straight I-90 Bowl victory, behind a dominant performance. Brockport improves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play after winning back-to-back games.

The Golden Eagle defense put forth an incredible performance, forcing eight turnovers from the Buffalo State offense including six interceptions and two fumbles. With 15 tackles for a loss in the game, Brockport held the Bengals to -23 rushing yards and 87 passing yards for a total of only 64 yards of total offense.

Brockport had four defensive touchdowns in the game, including three pick-sixes and a fumble recovered for a touchdown. The offense matched the defense with four scores in a balanced attack with two on the ground and two through the air.

Gino Fontanarosa got the day started with a 9-yard touchdown rush in the opening quarter, putting Brockport up 6-0 after a missed extra point. The reigning offensive player of the week totaled 115 yards on the ground and two scores. His second rushing touchdown came late in the third quarter.

Ben Marshall intercepted a pass in the first quarter and brought it back 55 yards to the house. Noah Panepinto's extra point would cash in this time around, as the Green and Gold went up 13-0. Soon after Giovanni Frisenda copied Marshall with a 29-yard pick-six of his own to make it a 20-point lead for Brockport at the half.

Both Frisenda and Marshall had two interceptions in the contest, but they weren't the only defensive backs with a pick-six in this one. Quickly after James Altenburger caught a 1-yard touchdown from Todd Simons, Raylens Boutin had his chance for a highlight. Boutin ran back an interception 36 yards, giving the squad a 34-2 lead.

After Fontanarosa's score in the third, Louis Usera got his first touchdown of the season. Chris McGuire found Usera for a 9-yard score, making it a 47-2 lead for the Golden Eagles. They would then get a scoop and score touchdown from Ismael Doumbia after a strip-fumble by Nick Herbst. Doubmia's fumble recovery for a touchdown would give the final, 54-2.

Quarterbacks Chris McGuire and Todd Simonds combined 80 passing yards and two scores through the air. Derrick Chance even had his chance on a throw, completing a 45-yard pass on his one attempt.

Anthony Testa led the receivers with 50 yards on two catches. Jared Maurino and Myles Goddard combined for 49 receiving yards. James Altenburger and Louis Usera only needed one catch each to score for the Green and Gold.

Jordan Harris led the defense with eight total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks. Gannon Johnston was second with seven tackles, adding 2.0 tackles behind the line.

Raylens Boutin contributed with six tackles, including 1.0 tackles for a loss to go with his 36-yard pick-six. Ben Marshall and Giovanni Frisenda both had two interceptions in the game with one pick-six each. Vincent Daviero also recorded an interception on the day.

As part of the eight takeaways for the defense, Ismael Doumbia and Dylan Mann both recovered fumbles. Nick Herbst and Vincent Daviero both knocked the ball loose once to cause fumbles.

The Golden Eagles are back at home next weekend for their final game at Bob Boozer Field this season. It is Senior Day as they welcome Morrisville State College for a 2pm, Empire 8 contest.
