Four TDs for Campanale as No. 17 R-MC Football Wins at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) went 11 for 12 for 213 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two scores as No. 17 Randolph-Macon posted a 35-21 victory at Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in ODAC action.

The Basics:

How it Happened:

  • The Generals took the opening kickoff and reached the end zone for a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest.
  • The Yellow Jackets took the kickoff and drove 79 yards in 10 plays, as Campanale hit senior David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan) with a 23-yard touchdown pass to level the score at 7-7 with 7:04 left in the first half.
  • W&L put together its own 79-yard scoring with a touchdown early in the second quarter to reclaim the lead at 14-7.
  • Following a touchback, Campanale hit Wallis with a 75-yard TD toss as R-MC tied it 14-14 with 13:36 remaining in the first half.
  • The Yellow Jacket defense forced a punt and went 78 yards in 12 plays, with Campanale scoring from the one with 1:19 left to lead 21-14 at intermission.
  • R-MC took the second-half kickoff and used a 55-yard pass from Campanale to Wallis to move to the W&L 2. Campanale ran it in from the two as the visitors took a 28-14 lead with 11:51 remaining in the third period.
  • The Yellow Jacket defense stopped W&L on downs at the RM 10. R-MC moved 90 yards in 11 plays, as senior Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) scored from three yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter as the Yellow Jackets took a 35-14 advantage.
  • W&L scored a touchdown with 27 seconds left to make the final 35-21.

By The Numbers:

  • R-MC amassed 423 yards of total offense, with 210 through the air and 213 on the ground. The Yellow Jackets scored on each of their first five possessions.
  • Wallis had seven catches for a career-best 195 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Junior Kwasi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) rushed 11 times for 85 yards. Hale carried 16 times for 84 yards and one score.
  • Senior Cade Jones (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) led the Yellow Jacket defense with 12 tackles. He also had one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. Senior Erik Harris (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) had 11 stops.

For The Record:

  • R-MC is 8-0 for just the second time in program history. The Yellow Jackets went 9-0 in the 1968 season.
  • The Yellow Jackets extended their win streak to 14 games. The program record is 19, from 1967-69.
  • R-MC has scored at least 35 points in each game this season.
  • The Yellow Jackets had the ball for 30:08. R-MC has had the advantage in time of possession in each of the past six meetings with the Generals and the Yellow Jackets have won four of those six encounters.
