More news about: Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y.—On Senior Day at Boswell Field, the Hobart College football team put up a season-high 346 yards rushing in a 45-21 Liberty League victory over Buffalo State College this afternoon. Running back Tim Denham Jr. led the charge with a career-high 213 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries.

Denham scored on runs of 26, 36 and 19 yards, giving him nine rushing TDs on the season. His 213-yard day is eighth on Hobart's single game list and the most by a Statesman since Doug Blakowski '07 rushed for 214 yards at Merchant Marine on Oct. 14, 2006.

Rayshawn Boswell added 89 yards and two touchdowns, upping his league-leading scoring total to 16 TDs. Hobart's team rushing total is eighth on that single game list and is the most by the Statesmen since piling up 364 yards at Rochester on Nov. 11, 2017.

On the defensive side, Buffalo State managed 326 yards off offense, but nearly half of those yards (153) came in the fourth quarter against the Hobart reserves with the score already out of reach. Linebacker Jaimen Bliss compiled a team-high eight tackles, including 1.5 sacks. Linebacker CJ Calero added seven stops, including a sack. Linebacker Emmett Forde recorded just three tackles, but two were strip sacks. He accounted for two of Hobart's three takeaways on the day. Cornerback Jared Leake accounted for the third with a second quarter interception.

The Bengals (0-9, 0-5) got off to a fast start as quarterback Tom Dupee directed a seven-play, 68-yard touchdown drive on the first possession. He accounted for 45 of those yards on keepers, scoring on an 18-yard naked bootleg that caught everyone off guard.

Hobart (7-2, 3-2) countered with a seven-play, 62-yard touchdown drive that quarterback David Krewson capped off with a 23-yard touchdown run. That scoring drive kicked off 45 straight points by the Statesmen, carrying a 14-7 lead into the second quarter and a 28-7 lead into halftime.

A south wind gave punters fits on Saturday. A 20-yard Buffalo State punt into the wind set Hobart up with a short field and a chance to take the lead. On first down, Krewson completed a screen pass to Boswell for 27 yards. On the next play, Boswell ran in from 4 yards out to give the Statesmen a lead they never relinquished.

Leake's interception set up Hobart's third touchdown. Five minutes into the second quarter, he picked off Cam Sionko at the Hobart 41. On the next play, Krewson took a shot down field, connecting with wide receiver James Miele for 41 yards and a first down at the Buff State 18. Two plays later, Boswell scored on an 8-yard run to make it 21-7.

Following a Bengals punt on their ensuing possession, Hobart went on the march again. This time Denham did the heavy lifting, accounting for 70 yards on an 84-yard drive. Denham's 26-yard touchdown made it 28-7 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Denham sandwiched two more touchdown runs around a 31-yard field goal by Rob DiGregorio to extend Hobart's lead to 45-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sionko threw a pair of touchdown passes in the final nine minutes to wrap up the day's scoring. He found Praise Prawl on a 10-yard throw with 8:06 to go and then found Cam Crosier on a 19-yard play with 2:45 left.

Sionko was 18-of-31 passing for 189 yards. Crosier caught 10 passes for a game-high 108 yards. Linebacker Justin Jones led the Bengals defense with a game-high 12 tackles.

Hobart will close out the regular season at Rochester on Saturday, Nov. 13 when the conference rivals clash for the Centennial Cup.
