Bears Run Past Nichols 33-6

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Jared Colletti and Spencer McMillion both had long touchdown runs in the first quarter and the duo combined for 276 yards and three touchdowns leading Coast Guard to a 33-6 win over Nichols to celebrate Homecoming Weekend.

Colletti, who scored on a 92-yard touchdown run on the Bears second play from scrimmage, carried 21 times for a career-high 141 yards and a touchdown while McMillion, who had a 71-yard touchdown run on CGA's fourth play from scrimmage, which was also his first career rush, carried 11 times for a career best 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win as both teams are now 2-1 on the season.

Coast Guard finished with 427 yards of total offense, 287 on the ground and 140 in the air while Nichols had 266 yards, 185 rushing and 81 passing.

Colletti's 92-yard scamper gave the Bears a 7-0 lead with 11:02 to go in the first quarter.

After Nichols turned the ball over on downs, McMillion made the most of his first career carry going 71 yards for a touchdown for a 14-0 lead with 5:31 left in the first.

Coast Guard had 217 yards in the first quarter, 207 on the ground.

McMillion's 18-yard touchdown run on the Bears opening possession of the second quarter pushed the lead to 21-0 with 13:53 left in the half as Coast Guard scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions and took the 21-0 lead into halftime.

Nichols would score its only points of the game on its first possession of the second half on a 37-yard run by Archie Killian, the PAT was missed making the score 21-6 with 10:43 left in the third.

Finnegan Hall booted a 39-yard field goal in the third quarter and then a 26-yard field goal with 10:30 left in the game pushing the lead to 27-6.

Tafari Wall's 16-yard touchdown pass to Damaso Jaime with 2:47 left closed the scoring.

Wall was 12 of 19 for 140 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Matt Ross led the Bears with five receptions for 44 yards.

Joshua Pierre-Charles led Nichols with 20 carries for 110 yards while quarterback Logan Sawyer was 11 of 28 for 81 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Michael Palermo led the Bears defense with 10 tackles while Adam Jibril-BarnesLogan Morris and Ethan Lasher all had their first career interceptions in the win for Coast Guard.

The Bears will host Anna Maria as part of Parents' Weekend next Saturday with kickoff set for 1:30.

Coast Guard wore special uniforms honoring Station 17 Pea Island today and will wear them four more times this season.
