Chapman rolls in home-opener

The Panthers (2-0 (0-0)) defeated the La Verne Leopards (1-1(0-0)) 59-25 Sat., Sep. 11 at Wilson Field for the 2021 season home opener. Chapman delivered offensively with a 31-0 lead before the conclusion of the first half. 

The Panthers wasted no time getting on board and less than three minutes into the first quarter set a 7-0 lead when Jonston Maclntyre rocketed a 59 -yard pass to connect with Spencer Corona. The Ken Baierl PAT was good.

With 9:05 left in the second the Panthers were up 31-0 after Reed Vettel connected with Zach Shorts and Corona for the second time. Baierl had two more good PAT's and a field goal to bolster the Panther lead. 

The Leopards struck with 5:49 left in the second with an Ethan Medeiors touchdown from the Tyrone Williams 40-yard pass. The Panthers later took a 45-6  lead and answered a Leopards fumble with a 3-yard touchdown return from Isaiah Munoz. 

The final 25-59 score was locked in after La Verne snuck in the final touchdown with 4:40 left in the game, the Leopards missed three PAT's on the night costing them a further point deficit. 

Chapmans' Dillon Keefe had two sacks on the game, setting his total at 18, the second most sacks in Chapman history. Simon Hall led the Panthers with 6 total tackles, atop the leaderboard for his second game in Chapman uniform and second game of the season. 

The Panthers led with 196 rushing yards to the Leopards 50, Marcos Reyes totaled 56 on the night followed by Tanner Mendoza's 32. Corona secured 154 receiving yards after going deep for two Chapman touchdowns. 

The Panthers return home this Sat., Sep. 18 to take on George Fox at 7 p.m. in the third non-conference game of the 2021 season.
