Hawks Topped on the Road at St. Lawrence

            CANTON, NY – Hartwick's football team was blanked by host St. Lawrence 33-0 on Saturday in a game played at Leckonby Stadium in Canton, NY. The Hawks were held offensively to season-lows of 94 passing yards and 153 total yards in the contest.
            Davien Kuinlan (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) rushed for 36 yards on 17 carries and he completed four passes for another 36 yards. Grant Harman (Liberty, NY/Liberty) connected on nine passes for 58 yards. Corey Sachs (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) made four catches for 23 yards. Jack Steinman (North Haven, CT/North Haven) had two receptions for a team-high 28 yards.

            The Saints would score on their opening drive of the day to put seven points on the scoreboard. The Hawks, however, were forced to punt on their first two drives of the day. Early in the second quarter, St. Lawrence turned an interception into seven more points to double their margin, 14-0.
            The Saints' defense forced two more 'Wick punts. They would cash in a field goal and then following another interception, they put another six points up just before halftime for a 23-0 lead after 30 minutes.
            In the second half, the two teams traded interceptions on their opening drives. The Hawks forced a punt and got the ball back on the SLU 30 yard-line. They reached the 11 but were pushed back to 16 before turning the ball over on downs. After another Hartwick takeaway, the Hawks had the ball on the SLU 15 and looked poised to get their first point of the day. They were again pushed back to the 16 and on a fourth and 11 were intercepted.
            In the fourth quarter, with the game still at 23-0, the Saints scored on a field goal at 9:57. They added the game's final points on a touchdown 1:51 later following Hartwick's fifth interception of the day.
            Quarterback Tyler Grochot passed for 326 yards and a touchdown on 25 completions for the hosts. Andrew Murphy made seven catches for 104 yards and one score, and running back Jamie Battaglia had 63 yards and two touchdowns on the ground on 15 carries.
             Matt Scotman (White Plains, NY/White Plains) paced the Hartwick defense with a team-high eight hits. Stephen Junjulas (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Kyle Kessler (Latham, NY/Shaker) each had seven tackles.
            Cameron Conrad (Valley Cottage, NY/Clarkstown North) contributed six tackles with a forced fumble. Eli Greene (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) had five tackles and an interception. Nelon Priest (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) recorded four tackles with a fumble recovery of 25 yards and Noah Socash (Vestal, NY/Vestal) also registered four tackles with one INT.
            The Hawks have their bye week next Saturday before they travel to Brockport on October 12.
