GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 31-17 at Greenville University on Saturday.

The host Panthers scored off a fumble and a field goal to take a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Kalamazoo got on the board with a 36-yard field goal by Greg Kearns with 4:05 left in the first.

Jared Pittman scored on a 33-yard run with one second left in the first quarter to tie the game up at 10-10.

The second quarter was scoreless until the final play as Greenville completed a pass deep downfield and the receiver pitched to a teammate who was able to run the final three yards into the end zone to put the Panthers up 17-10 at halftime.

Greenville took a 31-10 lead late in the third quarter before Kalamazoo scored to make it 31-17 with 13:25 left in the fourth on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Niko Nickson to Pierce Burke. That would do it for the scoring as Kalamazoo was unable to put any additional points on the board during its final three possessions.

Jared Pittman rushed for 84 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown.

Niko Nickson was 22-of-49 for 183 yards.

Sam Matthews led the receivers with 48 yards on six catches. CJ Foster had one catch for 36 yards while Anthony Giovanni had three catches for 35 yards.

Taylor Jackson led the Kalamazoo defense with 11 total tackles including 1.5 for lost yardage. Alex Stockwell and Jacob Chantres each had 10 tackles.

Stockwell, Chantres, Josh Martin, Kareem Wallace, and Noah Coplan were each in on sacks.

Kalamazoo plays its home opener next Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. against Lakeland University.
