Ripon Receives Six All-Conference Selections

GRINNELL, Iowa - Ripon's football team received six All-Conference selections Tuesday, as released by the Midwest Conference office. The Red Hawks, which finished the season with a 7-3 record, received three First Team selections, while also earning three Second Team selections.

Senior Center Jake Kaczorowski earned First Team honors, marking the first All-Conference honor of his career. A History major from Bear Creek, Wis., Jake was the anchor for an offensive line that finished third in Division-III in rushing with 319.9 yards per game, which is the fourth-highest single season total in program history. The Red Hawks' offense also finished second in program history for single season points (399), just seven points shy of the school record, while finishing eighth in program history for total offense (401.1 ypg).

Freshman Quarterback Cormac Madigan benefited the most from the offensive line's blocking, as Madigan earned First Team honors, while also receiving the MWC's Newcomer of the Year Award. A Chemistry-Biology major from Rosendale, Wis., Madigan led the conference in rushing yards (1,109), which ranks seventh in program history for a single season. His 13 rushing touchdowns were tied for first in the league, and is tied for ninth in program history. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry on the season, while also throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns.

Ripon's other First Team selection came on the defensive side of the ball, where Junior Safety Lane Barnes earned that distinction for the second consecutive season. A Business Management major from Clovis, Calif., Barnes led the nation in forced fumbles with seven, while also ranking 12th in the MWC with 78 tackles, which is second on the team. He also finished the year with three interceptions, which was 10th in the MWC, while adding 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, five pass breakups, two fumbles recovered, and one blocked kick. Barnes scored two defensive touchdowns this season, giving him five for his career.

Senior offensive lineman Jem Rein was named to the MWC's Second Team for the second consecutive season. The Economics major from Amherst Junction was a key cog in Ripon's prolific offense, which allowed just 15 sacks on the year, ranking fourth in the conference. The Red Hawks' offense also finished second in the MWC in first downs per game (21.9), third in third-down percentage (.396), and first in fourth-down percentage (.733).

Junior Fullback Tyler VanDeVelde is making his first All-Conference appearance, earning Second Team offensive honors. He finished ninth in the MWC in rushing yards (639), while also finishing tied for the league lead for rushing touchdowns (13). A Sociology major from Genoa City, Wis., VanDeVelde averaged 5.6 yards per carry, while catching six passes for 51 yards (8.5 ypr).

Senior Linebacker Ethan Hoffman was named to the All-Conference team for the first time in his career, earning Second Team defensive honors. A Business Management major from Kimberly, Wis., Hoffman finished the season ranking sixth in the MWC in tackles with 101, which is tied for the sixth-most single season tackles in program history. He also recorded six tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.
