Seniors Lead Way To Season-Ending HU FB Win

More news about: Hamline

Justice Spriggs and Harrison Jones, among others, will remember their final college football game fondly. On a chilly, snowy afternoon, the senior pair put on a show as Hamline took back The Hammer with a convincing 27-9 win over Augsburg at Klas Field Saturday. Spriggs threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns to finish his storied career as the school's time leader in passing yards (7,487), total yardage (7,610) and TD passes. He holds several other single game and single season records.

Jones was his favorite target Saturday, grabbing 13 passes for 196 yards and a pair of scores. On defense, Adan Rodriguez, also a senior, led the charge with 11 tackles and fellow senior Noah Jacobson added 10. Luke Trudell had eight in his final game to finish the season with 116, tops in the MIAC. The linebacker also leads in solo stops (64) and tackles per game (11.6).

HU trailed 3-0 in the second quarter when Spriggs capped a 75 yard, 11 play drive with an eight yard strike to Tanner Lunceford in the second quarter to give HU a 7-3 lead at halftime.. Spriggs and Jones then went to work, connecting on scoring strikes of 29 and 12 yards in the second half to give Hamline a 20-3 lead. The Auggies scored but Ernie Guillen blocked the extra point try to keep the margin at 20-9. Brandon Miller ran in a late score to cap the season on a winning note.

Hamline, which finished 1-9 overall (0-8 MIAC), loses 15 seniors in all to graduation. The group was honored in pregame ceremonies.
