Kalamazoo College improves to 6-0 with win at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team remained undefeated with a 20-19 win at Albion College (4-2, 1-2) on Saturday.

The Hornets are tied for first place in the MIAA at 3-0 and are 6-0 overall for the first time since 1978.

Kalamazoo outgained Albion 177 yards to 73 yards in the first half, but the score was even at 3-3 at the break.

Each team made a field goal in the third quarter to lock the score at 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hornets blocked a punt nine seconds into the fourth quarter and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to go up 13-6.

Albion evened the score again with a touchdown with 5:49 remaining.

Following a punt by each team, Zach VanFaussien found Raekwon Castelow down the middle of the field for a 58-yard touchdown putting the Hornets up 20-13 with just 1:44 remaining.

Albion proceeded to go 75 yards and score a touchdown with 26 seconds left on the clock, but a missed extra point sealed the win on the road for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo finished with 315 yards of total offense compared to 266 for Albion. The Hornets held the ball for nearly 37 minutes compared to 23 for the Britons.

Zach VanFaussien was 18-of-30 passing for 211 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The quarterback also ran for 34 yards on 15 carries.

Jared Pittman rushed for 45 yards on 13 carries while CJ Foster added 26 yards on seven carries.

Dylan Padget made six catches for 65 yards while Ethan Kubik had four catches for 39 yards. Raekwon Castelow had three catches for 71 yards including the 58-yard touchdown.

Greg Kearns made field goals of 27 yards and 23 yards and both extra points.

Jakob Frederick led the Hornet defense with 11 total tackles including a sack. Noah Coplan was credited with two sacks while Dominic Moore was in on another.

Kalamazoo returns home to take on Alma during Homecoming next Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
