Adrian's Big Day Helps St. Scholastica Top Northwestern

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica football team defeated the University of Northwestern (Minn.) by a score of 14-7 at Public Schools Stadium Saturday night. 

How it Happened
The teams traded multiple possessions in the opening minutes of the game, before the Saints got on the board with less than four minutes to go in the opening quarter, off a 27-yard pass play from Zach Edwards to Aaron Olson. Donovan Blatz converted the extra point to make it 7-0 to the Saints.

With 5:30 remaining in the second quarter, Northwestern missed a field goal attempt. The Saints would also miss a field goal attempt on the ensuing possession to keep the score at 7-0 Saints at the half. St. Scholastica had two Olson touchdowns called back due to penalties, while the Eagles were stopped on fourth down twice inside the CSS 40-yard-line in the first half.

The Eagles had the ball to start the second half, completing five plays for 10 yards before punting to the Saints. The teams traded possessions until midway through the third quarter, when the Saints completed six plays to earn a touchdown. Zach Edwards found Mitchell Adrian on a third-and-goal for an 8-yard score and Blatz made the extra point to make it 14-0 to CSS. Adrian had three receptions for 43 yards on the drive.

On the next two possessions, both teams would be stopped on downs inside each other's 25-yard-line.

Northwestern would eventually cut the Saints' lead to seven with less than eight minutes remaining in the game with an Evan Pruitt one-yard TD catch. However, the Saints held the ball for the final 7:33 of the game to defeat the Eagles 14-7.

Top Performers for the Saints
Edwards was 28-of-51 for 314 yards. Adrian had 103 receiving yards on 10 catches and had one touchdown. Olson recorded 87 receiving yards on six receptions and a touchdown. Ben Buthe ran for 48 yards on 13 carries.

Jonathan Senger and Quinten McGregor led the defense with a game-high 11 tackles each. Senger also had two sacks. Cody Pundsack had an interception.

Top Performers for the Opponent
Quarterback Taylor Lindahl threw for 142 yards. Payton Bowdry rushed for 94 yards. Evan Pruitt had eight receptions for 66 yards.

Noah Nightingale and Ben Maki each had five tackles for the Eagles.

The Saints (3-2, 3-1 UMAC) welcome Greenville University (Ill.) to Public Schools Stadium next Saturday for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
