Recap: Hartwick and King's combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and 100 points on Saturday with the Monarchs coming away with a 65-48 win. The Hawks led 27-23 following an 84-yard touchdown reception from Bryce Macina (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) to Dylan Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Iona Prep) early in the second quarter, but the hosts would score 23 points in the final 6:23 of the half to take the lead for good.

 

The Monarchs would score 22 points off of five Hartwick turnovers on the day, including 13 points in a 2:39 span late in the half. 'Wick out-scored King's 14-3 in the third quarter to pull to within eight points, 49-41, but the Monarchs scored the next 10 points of the fourth quarter and out-scored the Hawks by a margin of 16-7 in the fourth quarter.

 

The Hawks gained 460 yards of offense with 324 yards passing and 136 rushing. King's gained 584 yards of offensive, including 353 yards rushing.

 

Ronald Ballard (Deposit, NY/Deposit) rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries for the Hawks. Macina ran for 35 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed 18 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns with two picks. Connor Darmetko (Menands, NY/Watervliet) led all players with nine catches and 184 receiving yards. Mucci made four grabs for 115 yards and two scores.

 

Jordan Downes led the Monarchs' offense. He rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. He also made three catches for another 29 yards and a score.

 

Dylan Williams-Bachman (Homer, NY/Homer) led all players with 11 tackles. Mark Hackett (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) registered 10 and Raeleigh Ranne (Liberty, NY/Liberty) contributed nine hits. Chris Goudy (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had seven with Ian Chavanne (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and Patrick Skidgell (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) each adding six hits. Skidgell also had a sack.

 

The Hawks slipped to 3-6 against the Monarchs all-time with the setback. 'Wick entered the game 3-1 in the four meetings with King's in Wilkes-Barre (0-4 at Hartwick).

 

Up Next: Hartwick has a bye week before starting Empire 8 Conference play on September 29 at Buffalo State. The Hawks and Bengals kickoff at noon. King's hosts Stevenson next Saturday.
