Millikin Football Wins Home Opener

         The Millikin football team improved to 2-0 on the season winning its home opener 48-27 at Frank M. Lindsay Field on September 15.

         Millikin jumped out a 20-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.  The Big Blue's first score was a seven yard pass from Nicco Stepina to sophomore Patrick Cooper.  Stepina then connected with Jordan Smith on a one yard pass to make it 14-0.  Sophomore running Jazontae Howard raced 79 yard for a touchdown to make it 20-0 Millikin.

         North Park got on the board early in the second quarter when quarterback Grant Borsch hit Corey Woodrow on a 12-yard pass. 

         Millikin answered with a 39 yard touchdown run from Howard to make it 27-7.

         North Park scored in the final minute of the first half on a pass from Borsch to Brandon Vinson.

         Millikin put up the first two scores of the third quarter scoring on a 52 yard pass from Stepina to Gerald Perry and on a two yard run by Ladavion Severado.

         After North Park mad it a 41-21 game after three quarters, the Big Blue used the big play to score again.  Stepina and Smith connected on a 91 yard pass play to make it 48-21.

         Millikin had 581 yards of total offense (237 rushing and 344 passing) while North Park was held to 237 yards of total offense.

         Howard ended the day with 193 yards rushing on 16 carries.  Stepina was 22-37-1 for 344 yards and four touchdowns.  Smith had five catches for 140 yards while Perry had five catches for 115 yards.

         Kyle Ramos led Millikin with 13 tackles.  Matt Brown had seven tackles including two sacks and an interception.  Gabe Xayathone had three tackles for a loss.  Quintaz Wright and Jequan Harrell each had two tackles for a loss.

         Borsch was 26-37-1 passing for 210 yards and two touchdowns for North Park.

         Millikin improves to 2-1, 1-0 while North Park falls to 1-1, 0-1.

         The Big Blue travel to Wheaton College on September 22 for a 6 p.m. start.
