MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern football team improved to 2-0 on the year by overpowering Huntingdon College down the stretch, winning 41-35 on the road Saturday night.  The win brings the Wesley Cup back to the Hilltop for the first time since 2015.

The Panthers passing game was on fire.  Burk Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) came off the bench to throw a game and career-high 315 yards, the second most in program history.  He completed 14-of-25 with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Three receivers had 100-yard days led by Cole Marell (Bonifay, Fla./Holmes County HS) who set program records with 11 catches for 192 yards, beating the previous record set back in 2012.  Buddy Dowd (Dothan, Ala./Northview HS) earned 114 yards on seven catches, and Robert Shufford(McKenzie, Ala./McKenzie HS) earned 111 yards on three catches.  Including a game-long 77-yard grab, Shufford also put in work on the ground to finish the night with 169 total yards.

Defensively, Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS) and Sy Butler (Childersburg, Ala./Childersburg HS) led BSC.  Stevens tied for the game-high of 12 tackles, eight solo. Butler finished with 11 tackles, seven solo, and a tackle for a loss of one yard, respectively.  It was Butler's pick six with 1:34 to play in the fourth quarter that helped put the Panthers on top for good.

The BSC defense finished with four picks on the night.  They held the Hawks to just 141 total offensive yards in the second half and didn't allow any points for over 26 minutes down the stretch.

The Panthers enjoy a bye week before returning to action at home on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they open Southern Athletic Association play against Rhodes College.
