WILKES-BARRE --  Former King's College quarterback Zach Whitehead (Hockessin, De./St. Marks) will take advantage of an unusual opportunity when he ventures to Germany today (Tuesday) to play professional football for the Regensburg Phoenix.

The past week has been a bit of a whirlwind for Whitehead, who graduated from King's on Sunday and was slated to leave for Germany at 4:30 PM today.  Whitehead was approached with the opportunity just days before graduating form King's.

Whitehead closed out his collegiate career on November 11 by earning King's most valuable player award after leading the Monarchs to a 40-26 win over city rival Wilkes in the annual Mayor's Cup Game. It was the second straight year Whitehead was named MVP of the Mayor's Cup Game.

"I want to say thank you to Kings for allowing me to grow as a person and player, and continue my football career," Whitehead stated. "Kings has opened many doors both professionally and personally for me that I am forever grateful for. I am extremely excited, blessed and honored to be able to continue my football career."
