Golden Eagles Pummel The Panthers, 66-0

More news about: Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 10 ranked College at Brockport football team moved into the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Championships with Saturday's 66-0 victory over Plymouth State. The team set a new program mark for wins, as they now sit at 11-0 on the season, and the 66-point margin of victory was also the most ever by a Golden Eagle football team.

This was the first playoff victory for Brockport since the 2002 season when they made it all the way to the NCAA Quarterfinals. They'll get a matchup with former New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)-foe Wesley College next weekend at home.

Brockport had their best game of the year on both offense and defense in terms of total yardage, outgaining the Panthers by over 500 yards (626-104). The shutout is the fourth of the season for the Golden Eagle defense, which once again held their opponents to negative rushing yards (-5).

304 of those yards came on the ground, as Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Tyree Brown was unstoppable from the backfield, averaging 19.5 yards-per-carry on his eight carries (156 yards) and a touchdown. Senior Dan Hogan scored the first two touchdowns of his career, both on the ground as part of a 51-yard effort. Jason Hellwig and Joe Germinerio each punched in rushing touchdowns as well.

Germinerio threw for 316 yards in the outing, moving into second place in the Golden Eagle record books for passing yards in a season with 2,685. The sophomore has now thrown 23 touchdown passes in 2017, which puts him just three shy of the single-season mark set by Joe Scibilia in 2012.

Two of those touchdown passes went to DaQuan Hubbard, who is now nearing some Golden Eagle records of his own. His 127 receiving yards today puts him at 880 for the season, just 67 shy of the single season mark set by Dan Fletcher in 1991. He's also caught 10 touchdowns, and one more would tie him with Fletcher for the single season mark which was also set by Fletcher.

Jerry Thompson had an excellent day receiving as well, catching six passes for 94 yards, including a 49-yard bomb on third and long that put Brockport up 17-0 early in the second quarter.

Defensively, no player totaled more than five tackles, as the Panthers managed just seven first downs on the day. Lawrence Jenkins and Alex West combined for 10 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, while Julius Mizro and Josh Greenwood both recorded sacks.

Jake O'Connell broke up a pair of passes, and also picked off a pass that he returned 45 yards to the house in the second quarter. The interception was the Rochester, N.Y. natives seventh of the season, and third that he's returned for a touchdown.

Brockport will be back at home next weekend for the second round of the NCAA Championship Playoffs when they welcome the Wesley College Wolverines to Bob Boozer field for a game beginning at noon.
