More news about: Rhodes

Danville, Ky. - Rhodes College football fell to Centre College 42-35 during the Colonels' Homecoming festivities, but not before putting a damper on their rush game. The loss takes Rhodes to 3-5 on the year while Centre improves to 6-1.

Rhodes opened the game with a touchdown on an impressive 39-yard pass from PJ Settles to Jace Franklin for the freshman's first collegiate touchdown. Centre tied the game but then C.J. Laws ran for a 26-yard touchdown to give Rhodes their second lead of the game. Centre responded by scoring three receiving touchdowns in a row, all while holding Rhodes scoreless in the second quarter.

The Lynx opened the third quarter with a 62-yard touchdown on the ground by Settles, his first of two rushing touchdowns in the game. The TD pulled Rhodes within seven points of the Colonels (28-21).

Centre would go on to take a 42-21 lead but Settles' second touchdown of the day, a six-yard run, ended the third quarter. Rhodes held Centre scoreless in the fourth quarter as they tried to make a comeback, falling seven points short after Carter King held on for a 16-yard touchdown.

Settles finished with 288 passing yards and 211 net rushing yards of the team's 282 total rushing yards while the Lynx defense shined when Centre tried to run the ball. Rhodes held the Colonels to just 53 yards rushing (a season low for Centre) with their longest rush only an eight-yard run by Colin Burnham. Rhodes averaged 7.8 yards per rush in the game.

Leading the Lynx defense was D'On Coofer and Elliott Tostrud. Both tallied four solo tackles as Coofer recorded seven total and Tostrud six total. Coofer had one sack for a six-yard loss while Trent Holt had a sack for a loss of four yards. Overall the Lynx recorded six tackles for a total of 18 yards lost for Centre.

Kyle Edmiston was five-for-five in extra points. He also recorded three touchbacks on kickoffs as he tallied 383 yards. Wide receiver Josh Lucas totaled 194 yards on 13 receptions.

Rhodes is at home next Saturday, Oct. 28th at 2 p.m. when they host Sewanee in a bitter rivalry over Homecoming Weekend.
