WashU Snaps Losing Skid with Win Over Buena Vista

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 14, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis football team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 55-20 win over Buena Vista University Saturday at Francis Field in St. Louis.

WashU limited Buena Vista to a season-low 317 yards of total offense, including 38 rushing yards on 33 carries. Junior defensive back Chandler Elmore made a career-high 11 tackles (seven solo) to lead the defensive unit.

The Bears snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 2-5, while Buena Vista fell to 3-3.

Sophomore defensive lineman Michael Prescott scored a pair of touchdowns in the win for WashU. Prescott had a fumble recovery in the end zone in the second quarter, and then recovered a fumble and scampered 20 yards for a TD in the fourth.

WashU jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter after sophomore John Fisherand senior David Nees found the end zone. WashU had 150 yards of total offense in the opening quarter, and was 2-of-2 on fourth down.

Prescott jumped on a fumble in the end zone midway through the second quarter to push WashU's lead to 21-0. After a three-and-out, sophomore quarterback Johnny Davidson found senior tight end Mark McMillin open for a three-yard TD reception to extend the lead to 28-0.

WashU held a 28-7 halftime advantage, limiting Buena Vista to three rushing yards. Davidson was 16-of-20 for 121 yards and a TD. 

The Bears added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter after Davidson scampered in from 17 yards and tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to McMillin to make it 41-7.

Prescott added a 20-yard fumble return for a TD in the fourth, and then junior running back Logan Bash added a one-yard TD run to round out the scoring.

Davidson totaled 242 yards of total offense in the win. He completed 23-of-31 for 173 yards and two TDs and also ran for 69 yards on four carries and a TD.

Freshman wide receiver Nick Cione had four catches for 52 yards, and also returned four punts for 118 yards (29.5 average). Cione had a 51-yard punt return in the fourth quarter.

WashU has a bye week before returning to action on Saturday, Oct, 28, at No. 16-ranked Case Western Reserve University (6-0, 1-0 UAA).

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU and Buena Vista met for the first time in school history … The Bears are 2-3 at home this season … WashU has allowed just 10 points in the last six games in the third quarter … Senior wide receiver Marcus Ramspott had two receptions to increase his career total to 119, seventh most in school history … The 175 rushing yards tied a season high … The Bears did not turn the ball over for the second time this season, and were 6-of-12 on third downs.
