Kalamazoo falls to Olivet, 40-6

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 40-6 to Olivet College at Angell Field on Saturday.

Kalamazoo took a lead midway through the first quarter on Greg Kearns 31-yard field goal.

Olivet pulled ahead with a fumble recovery in Kalamazoo's end zone for a touchdown with 10:00 left in the second quarter. The Comets took that 7-3 lead into halftime.

The visiting Comets scored three times in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter to go up 27-3. Kalamazoo's Kearns made a 29-yard field goal with 1:53 left in the third to make it 27-6.

Olivet scored twice early in the fourth quarter to make it a 40-6 game.

Jared Pittman led Kalamazoo on the ground with 62 yards on 10 carries. Alex White and Zach VanFaussien combined for 41 yards on the ground.

White, VanFaussien and Cam Crothers combined for 160 yard passing in the game.

Seth Dexter led Kalamazoo with four receptions for 41 yards. Zak Zagon had three catches for 45 yards. 

Quentin Sweeney led the Hornet defense with 11 total tackles including a sack. Noah CoplanRyan Andrusz and Ben Forhan also were credited with sacks.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 14 at Trine.
