Bonde Scores Two Touchdowns Against Redlands

LOS ANGELESJake Willemsen and Ian Bonde hooked up for a pair of touchdowns in the Occidental football team's first home game and first SCIAC game of the season.

The Tigers fell to defending SCIAC champion Redlands 72-13 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Bonde had the play of the game for the Tigers, snagging a back shoulder throw from the rookie quarterback, while dragging one foot in the end zone for an impressive score. It was Oxy's first score of the game with 12:47 left in the fourth quarter.

On Oxy's next drive, Willemsen found Bonde again, this time wide open down the right sideline and he was able to coast into the end zone. 

Bonde now has nine career touchdown receptions for Oxy and 878 career receiving yards.

Willemsen finished with 110 yards passing and also ran for 26. Oxy first year running back Ezekiel Ebieshuwa had a big game, running for a career high 77 yards on 11 carries. Carlton O'Neal had a pair of catches for 22 yards, Mark Wolohan caught three for 39 yards and Lucas Savoie caught a pass for 29 yards.

Joey Garza led three Oxy defensive players with double-digit tackles with 11, along with a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble. Christian Clark and Chris Garcia each made 10 tackles. 

Nathan Martinez put up the best numbers for Redlands, running in three touchdowns from the quarterback position. Levi Plante also had a good game, going 13 for 16 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Oxy's record falls to 0-2 on the season.

Redlands improves to 2-1.

The Tigers are back in action at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 1 p.m. on Oct. 7. Oxy's next home game is homecoming against La Verne on Oct. 14 at Jack Kemp Stadium.
