Big first half fuels Tommie victory

More news about: St. Thomas

No. 7-ranked Tommie Football scored five first-half touchdowns, as quarterback Jacques Perra completed 17 of his first 18 passes, in Saturday's 57-25 MIAC victory at Augsburg.

St. Thomas (4-1 overall, 3-0 MIAC) recorded 32 first downs and 514 offensive yards, but the explosive Auggies threw for 270 yards and four TD aerials.

The Tommie defense had 12 tackles for loss -- two each by Dylan Andrew and Austin Jochum -- and limited Augsburg to minus-27 net rushing yards. After five quarterback rush losses for 29 yards were subtracted, the Auggie running backs gained just two yards on 18 carries. Mark Dowdle blocked a PAT kick.

Perra completed 21 of 26 passes for 247 yards and one interception. He threw a TD pass to Luke Iverson with just :03 left in the first half to build a 36-13 lead.

Vinny Pallini caught eight passes for 98 yards; Tucker Trettel rushed for 87 yards and two TDs; Jordan Roberts rushed for 68 yards and two TD; and Josh Parks rushed for 29 yards and a score.

That sets up an Oct. 7 battle of ranked teams as 4-0 Concordia-Moorhead visits UST's Palmer Field.
