KING'S FOOTBALL DROPS 44-41 HEARTBREAKER TO LYCOMING ON TD WITH 0:42 REMAINING

WILKES-BARRE -- Lycoming College quarterback Chase Williams scored on a 11-yard run with 0:42 remaining in the game as the Warrior posted a 44-41 victory over host King's College on the Monarchs' Homecoming Day Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Lycoming improved to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the MAC while King's slipped to 2-2 and 1-2 in league games.

In a back-and-forth affair, the Monarchs trailed 37-34 before taking a 41-37 lead on a four yard pass from Zach Whitehead to Trey Campbell 10 cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive after the Warriors had taken a 37-34 lead on a 36-yard field goal by Jamie Fisher with 10:00 to play.

King's fell behind 10-0 early in the game before using a four-yard Whitehead run with 2:33 left in the first quarter to cut the score to 10-6 after the extra point was blocked. The Warriors countered with a 66-yard drive, culminating with a  three-yard pass from Williams to Nick Costello to push the Warrior lead to 17-6 with 12:38 left in the second quarter.

The Monarchs answered with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Campbell, then took advantage of a Lycoming fumble on a punt two possessions later to tale a 20-17 lead on a five-yard scoring run by Whitehead with 1:23 left in the half.

The fireworks would continue when the Warriors used a 34-yard touchdown pass to Brent Zollicoffer to recapture the lead at 24-20 with 0:49 on the clock. But the Monarchs also struck quickly when Whitehead found Tyler Marroni for a 32-yard touchdown with 0:12 left as the Monarchs took a 27-24 lead into the break.

In the third quarter Fisher made good on a 25-yard field goal to tie the game at 27-27 before the Monarchs put together an 11-play, 75 yard drive that needed with a 26-yard scoring toss to Marroni to give King's a 34-27 lead 7:14 left in the period. 

The Warriors came up with a huge defensive play when Ahmad Curtis hauled in a batted ball at the line of scrimmage and rumbled 21 yards to the end zone to tie the game at 34-34 with 2:40 to play in the third quarter, setting up the wild finish.

Lycoming outgained King's 492-to-408 in total yards and each team registered 26 first downs.

Whitehead completed 25-of-44 passes for 272 yards and four scores while rushing for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Marroni caught eight passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns while Campbell added six receptions for 59 yards and two scores. Marquis Miller and Jordan Downs had four receptions apiece.

Williams led Lycoming with 337 passing yards, going 25-of-44 on the day with three touchdowns while rushing for 69 yards on eight carries with one score. Nick Costello caught eight passes for 104 yards and one score while Ben Zollicoffer caught five passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

King's returns home Saturday with a 1:00 PM matchup with MAC co-leader Albright College (4-0, 3-0).
