Bears hand Bison first loss of the season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Dominique Brunson (Winter Haven, Fla.) recorded a pair of interceptions in Nichols College's 13-0 loss at Coast Guard Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Cadet Memorial Field.
 
Seniors Zackary Gorczynski (Sutton, Mass.) and Mike Abbruzzese (Natick, Mass.) also recorded an interception while both senior captain Brett McEvoy (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Jaylen Encarnacion (Pawtucket, R.I.) were each credited with 10 tackles.
 
Nichols was held to 123 yards on offense and turned the ball over three times. The Bears, meanwhile, compiled 384 yards of total offense, led by senior back Cam Cecchini (Tulsa, Okla.) with 104 rushing yards.
 
Coast Guard capped a four-play, 38-yard scoring drive with a six-yard TD reception from senior tight end Cody Bain (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the first quarter to account for the only points of the first half. Junior Cole Austin (Flower Mound, Texas) booted field goals from 19 and 20 yards out in the second half to seal the win.

Today's game marked the 15th all-time meeting between Nichols College and the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Bears have won three of the last six meeting and lead the series, 9-6.
