William Paterson Football Falls at Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD. – The William Paterson football team (0-2, 0-1 NJAC) suffered a 63-7 loss at Salisbury (1-1, 1-0 NJAC) Sept. 9.

 

A 59-yard return of the opening kickoff set up a 23-yard Michael Fowler touchdown run. Senior Alex Potocko kicked the extra point and the Sea Gulls led, 7-0, 1:22 into the contest.

 

Senior quarterback Brandon Lewis connected with senior wide receiver Brad Rose for a 35-yard TD and a 14-0 edge with 11:03 left during the opening period.

 

Blake Joppy's 67-yard punt return and Brad Curley's one-yard carry pushed it to 21-0 with 9:00 on the clock in the first quarter.

 

Sophomore linebacker Corey Anthony's interception gave the Pioneers the ball at the Salisbury-26, and three plays later junior running back Kyle Fanning crossed the goal line for a five-yard touchdown. Sophomore Brandon Harley kicked the PAT to make it a 21-7 game with 2:06 to play in the first.

 

During the second quarter, senior running back KaDarrius Campbell contributed a one-yard TD (12:31), and Salisbury took a 28-7 advantage into the halftime break.

 

The Sea Gulls got rushing touchdowns of three yards from Fowler (35-7, 11:37), two yards from Campbell (42-7, 8:17) and one yard from Malique Pratt (49-7, 2:20) during the third period.

 

Junior quarterback Frank Pipich Jr. punched across a three-yard TD early in the fourth (56-7, 11:52), and sophomore Derek Howarth finished the scoring with a six-yard carry at the 4:24 mark.

 

Sophomore quarterback Mike Yarosz was 4-for-10 for 76 yards and an interception, while sophomore running back Dahmiere Willis carried nine times for 35 yards. Senior running back Aqeel Daniels-Lundy caught two passes for 22 yards.

 

Junior linebacker Charles Faulkner made a game-best 14 tackles (0.5 sack). Anthony added 11 stops to his interception, and senior defensive lineman Omar Mahmoud brought down 10 ball carriers (2.0 TFL).

 

Lewis went 3-for-5 for 63 yards and a score for Salisbury. Pratt gained a team-best 84 yards on 12 attempts, collecting one touchdown.

 

Senior linebacker Zach Wolfrey and sophomore linebacker Patrick Bernardo each posted six tackles for the Sea Gulls.

 

William Paterson will take on Rowan in its home opener Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Wightman Stadium.
