More news about: Geneva

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva Football held a lead over Marietta on Saturday, September 2 until the last two minutes of the game. Marietta's comeback handed Geneva a 26-25 loss and a 0-1 season start.

Jared Hogue's (Freedom, PA/Freedom) 50 yard kickoff return opened the door for a first drive Geneva touchdown by Trewon Marshall(Leetsdale,PA/Quaker Valley). The point after touchdown attempt smacked the right post keeping the score at 6-0.

Marshall tabbed another touchdown before the first quarter was up. The extra point was never attempted as the wet football was mishandled. Geneva and Marietta each had their own variety of issues with the PAT attempts. Five combined touchdowns later and no success was found by either team in extra point conversion attempts.

After a strong first half by the Golden Tornadoes, momentum moved in the favor of the visitors. Marietta stole the win thanks to 14 points scored in the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Marshall showcased a 30 yard carry to set up Collin Kendrick's (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) rushing touchdown at 13:33. Marietta not only answered but took the lead for the first time with two minutes remaining in the game. Tied at 25-25, the good PAT was enough to take the win.

Marshall finished his junior season opener with 198 yards, two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Bryan Stafford (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville)recorded 63 yards, one touchdown, and going 3-10-2 on the night.

Torrin Sallis (Butler, PA/Knoch)Joe Shively (Monaca, PA/Central Valley), Bryan Weyant (Salem, OH/United), and Zach Hall (Irwin, PA/Norwin)each tallied double figure tackles. Sallis led with 16 supported by Shively's 13, Weyant's 11 and Hall's 10.
