Second Round of Guilford Football Recruits Released

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the official commitment of five more student-athletes to play football for the Quakers Wednesday. These students have paid their deposits to Guilford and will enroll for classes beginning in August. These five athletes give head coach Chris Rusiewicz 10 commitments for the class of 2021.

Brother's Zack and Sam Mott (Pikeville, N.C.) both played on the offensive line under the direction of coach Steve Brooks at Charles B. Aycock High School.  The pair lettered three years for the team and earned all-area recognition and All-Eastern Carolina Conference honors. The pair played in the highest scoring football game in North Carolina history, when D.H. Conley defeated the Golden Falcons, 83-68. The Motts are both two-year letter winners with Aycock's baseball team. Off the court, the brothers are both active with the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and DECA. They intend to study exercise and sports sciences at Guilford.

Gerard Seals (Charlotte, N.C) is a 6-1, 205-pound linebacker coached by Andrew Howard atPhillip O. Berry Academy. He lettered three years on the team playing various positions including tight end and safety. He made All-South Meck 8 Conference and recorded the team's most defensive touchdowns in his three years on the team. Seals plans to study exercise and sports science at Guilford.

Gavin Watts (Biscoe, N.C.) is a 6-2, 190-pound quarterback who lettered three years under Benjamin Hammer at East Montgomery High School. Watts was a two-time All-Rocky River conference honoree. He will graduate with the school's season passing touchdown record (29), twice served as captain, and was voted Most Valuable Player as a senior. Aside from his success in football, Watts was also a weapon on the hardwood. He lettered four years as a forward on the Eagles' basketball team and earned all-conference honors his senior year. Watts also lettered four years in baseball. He is a member of the National Honor Society and ranks among the top-20 students in his class. Watts intends to study sport management atGuilford.

Chris Walton (Douglasville, Ga.) is a 5-8, 165-pound defensive back coached by Chris Brown at Hiram High School. The three-time player of the week lettered three years on the team. He earned All-Paulding County and second-team all-region recognition, and competed in the 2016 Georgia Northwest Bowl IV all-star game in Georgia. He also earned the team's 2016 Team Captain Award. Walton intends to study sport management at Guilford.

The Quakers are slated to return as many as 59 letter winners and 13 starters in 2017. They open the 2017 season with an away game against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, on September 2.
