More news about: Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick football players Billy Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls HS) and Koree Reed (Baldwinsville, NY/Central Conn. St. Univ.)  finished the 2016 season as NCAA Division III Statistical Champions in respective categories, announced by the NCAA this week. The quarterback and wide receiver were key cogs in the Hawks' high-powered passing offense which ranked in the top 10 in the country.
Pine earned the distinction in total yards per game after earning an average of 388.2 yards in nine outings. He threw for an average of 342.4 yards, which ranked sixth nationally, and ran for another 45.8 yards per game for the Hawks. Pine was also first in passing yards per completion (17.92), second in yards per pass attempt (10.07), and he finished the campaign leading the Empire 8 Conference in five stat categories.
An E8 Honorable mention recipient, Pine completed 172 passes for a total of 3,082 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also ran for 412 yards for another five scores. Pine bagged 603 yards of offense in a three-point loss to Cortland on October 1. It marked the second-highest total recorded in a Division III game for the entire season.
Reed was statistical champion in reception yards per game. It marks the second straight season a Hartwick Hawk has led the nation in the category after Brad Garcia (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) topped the rankings in 2016.
Reed hauled in an average of 160.6 yards per game this season, 15.1 yards per game more than any other player in all of college football (FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III). He ranked first nationally in receiving yards (1,606), second in yards per reception (27.7), third in receiving touchdowns (17) and also led the E8 in five categories.
The Baldwinsville, NY product was named to both the American Football Coaches' Association All-America and the Associated Press Little All-America First Teams. He was a D3football.com All-East Region First Team pick as well as an Empire 8 First Team selection.
