More news about: St. Thomas

No. 3 ranked St. Thomas recorded the first postseason shutout win in school history with Saturday's 43-0 home defeat of Northwestern-St. Paul in NCAA playoff first-round action at UST's Palmer Field.

The Tommies (11-0) rolled to a 30-0 halftime lead and used primarily backups the rest of the way. The Toms are 15-1 at home in the postseason under nine-year head coach Glenn Caruso with 12 wins in a row.

St. Thomas' defense had four takeaways and allowed just 162 net yards to the Eagles (9-2). Junior LB Dylan Andrew had a 58-yard interception return for a TD. Senior DB Michael Alada tied 33-year-old school record as he recorded his 10th pickoff of the season, matching Neal Guggemos' 1983 feat.

UST has allowed just two touchdowns in its last 18 quarters.

Senior Nick Waldvogel caught seven passes for 104 yards, all in the first half. Senior QB Alex Fenske completed 13-of-19 for 206 yards and no turnovers. Freshman tailback Stephen Wagner came off the bench to record 98 yards of offense on 17 touches in the final half.

St. Thomas plays No. 16-ranked Coe (11-0) on Nov. 26 at noon in round two, likely at home on Palmer Field.
