THOUSAND OAKS — Bryan Scott, Cordell Harris and the Occidental offense gained 558 yards of total offense.
But the Occidental football team couldn't keep Cal Lutheran out of the end zone in a 53-36 road loss against the Kingsmen on Saturday.
Scott, the SCIAC all-time career passing yardage leader, threw for 400 yards and four touchdowns, finding 10 different receivers in the game. He leads the SCIAC with an average of 329 yards per game and 22 passing touchdowns.
Harris was Scott's top target, catching six passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. He surpassed 2,000 career receiving yards, putting him at fifth on Oxy's all-time list, just 80 shy of passing Josh Jones who has 2,087 in fourth.
Harris also played corner back for the second week in a row, showing off why he's one of the best all-around football players in the SCIAC. In the third quarter, he intercepted a Cal Lutheran two-point conversion attempt and took it 98 yards for a two-point Oxy score.
Harris was named the SCIAC Football Player of the Week and a member of the D3football.com Team of the Week after a big game against Whittier last week.
Oxy wide receiver Isaiah Amechi was Scott's second most frequented target with five catches for 101 yards and a score. Ian Bonde had six catches for 37 yards and a touchdown, and Carlton O'neal caught three passes for 31 yards and one touchdown.
Chris Rom-Toribio, Oxy's speedy running back, had this third 100+ yard game out of his last four, picking up 127 yards on the ground, including a 27-yard run and a 24-yard touchdown run.
After a big halftime deficit, the Tigers outscored the Kingsmen 17-6 in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 10 at one point, but couldn't get it to single digits.
Chris Garcia led Oxy's defense with a team-best nine tackles and a sack, Harris made five tackles and broke up a pair of passes, Joe Garza had an interception, Christian Clark had five tackles and a sack, and Evan Buckwalter made four tackles and forced a fumble.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in SCIAC play.
Cal Lutheran improves to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in SCIAC.
