No. 13 Saints Defeat Bethany 30-7 on Senior Day

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – No. 13 Thomas More held Bethany to 242 yards of total offense today (Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016) as it defeated the Bison 30-7 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Senior Day at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Ky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bison fall to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed the game as it led 7-0 after one quarter, 14-0 at halftime and 16-0 after three quarters.  The Saints outgained the Bison 461 yards (256 rushing/205 passing) to 242 yards (89 rushing/153 passing).

Thomas More took a 7-0 lead with one-second to play in the first quarter when junior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Logan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and first-year kicker Cole Mathias (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) added the point-after-attempt.

The Saints increased the lead to 14-0 at halftime as senior running back C.T. Tarrant (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) scored on a 16-yard run and Mathias added the PAT with 6:47 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More increased the lead to 16-0 with 12-seconds to play in the third quarter as the Bison were called for holding in the end zone which resulted in a safety.

Junior wide receiver Daylin Garland (Newport, Ky./Newport) caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kuntz and Mathias added the PAT to extend the lead to 23-0 with 13:47 to play in the game. The Saints increased the lead to 30-0 with 8:01 to play in the game when Tarrant scored on a 14-yard run and Mathias added the PAT.

Bethany's Terry Linyard scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Chase Kinemond and Chris Ray added the PAT with 2:52 to play in the game for the final score of 30-7.

Kuntz finished the game 16-of-29 passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns.  Tarrant led the Saints' on the ground with 20 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns.  Garland had seven catches for 82 yards and a touchdown, senior wide receiver Matt Betustak (Avon, Ind./Avon) had five catches for 62 yards and Winkler had two catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Junior linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) led the Saints' defense with 13 tackles (five solo, eight assisted), including two tackles for a loss and a sack. Senior defensive back Lemuel Weyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had seven tackles (five solo, two assisted), senior linebacker Josh Hunter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) had seven tackles (four solo, three assisted), including a half tackle for a loss and one forced fumble and senior linebacker Austin Copeland (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) had six tackles (four solo, two assisted), including a half tackle for a loss and one interception.

Thomas More closes out the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 5) when it travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
