No. 15 Thomas More Sets Records in 70-20 Win Over Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The 15th-ranked Thomas More College football team set the school record in points in a quarter and junior quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) set the single-game touchdown passing record today (Saturday, October 8, 2016) as the Saints defeated Grove City College, 70-20, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the PAC.

The game was tied at 0-0 after one quarter and then Thomas More led 35-7 at halftime and 49-14 after three quarters.

The Saints set the school record for points in a quarter when they scored 35 in the second quarter and Kuntz set the single-game school record for passing touchdowns with five.

Kuntz threw two touchdown passes to sophomore wide receiver Logan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) (15 and 25 yards) and senior wide receiver Dalton Conway (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) (51 and five yards) and one to junior wide receiver Daylin Garland (Newport, Ky./Newport).

Thomas More had three rushing touchdowns as senior running back C.T. Tarrant (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) scored on a 10-yard run, sophomore running back Hjavier Pitts (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) scored on a 21-yard run, sophomore Luke Zajac (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a one-yard run and first-year running back Jordan Williams (Winter Haven, Fla./Lake Region) scored on a 16-yard run.  Senior defensive back Jordan Smith (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) returned an interception 84 yards for a touchdown.

Thomas More out-gained the Wolverines 586 yards (284 rushing/302 passing) to 354 yards (108 rushing/246 passing). 

Kuntz finished the game 19-of-27 passing for 272 yards and five touchdown, while also rushing the ball four times for 36 yards.  Pitts led the team on the ground with 10 carries for 79 yard and one touchdown, while Tarrant had 12 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.  Winkler led the receiving corps with seven catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Conway had four catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) led the team in tackles with seven (four solo/three assisted).  Smith finished the game with five tackles (four solo/one assisted) and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown, senior linebacker DJ Powell (Erlanger, Ky./Covington Catholic) had five tackles (two solo/three assisted), including one sack and first-year defensive back Thomas Williams (Oregonia, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) had five tackles (two solo/three assisted) and an interception.

Thomas More returns to action next Saturday (October 15) when it travels to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to play Waynesburg University at 1:30 p.m.
