Britons run into Thunder storm

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University had three quick scoring drives to earn a 35-16 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action.

The Thunder needed three plays or less to complete three of its five scoring drives on the day. Brandon Rooze threw touchdown passes covering 33 and 20 yards in the second quarter to lead Trine to a 21-3 halftime lead. Rooze, who threw for 131 yards, added another touchdown strike in the third quarter.

On its third possession of the game, Briton quarterback Chad Hamilton connected with Tyler Sykes for a 38-yard gain to the Trine 23. Later in the drive, Albion converted on third down as Hamilton and Sykes hooked up for a 16-yard gain to the Trine 10. The drive bogged down and the Britons settled for Andrew Fabry's 30-yard field goal.

Anthony Waite returned an interception 15 yards for his second touchdown of the season in the third quarter, and Collin Pore rushed for a 50-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hamilton passed for 270 yards, with Sykes rolling up 102 receiving yards. Sean Koski made six catches for 83 yards.

Nathan DiRado and Vince Plaskey wrapped up 12 and 10 tackles, respectively, to lead the Albion defense.

Next up for Albion is the Homecoming game against Olivet College next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on the Schmidt-Fraser Field inside Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
