MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet College football team scored 30 unanswered points to beat Wisconsin Lutheran College, 30-7, this afternoon at Raabe Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors took advantage of a Comet fumble to put the first seven points on the scoreboard at the 4:56 mark of the opening quarter.
  • Olivet then put together a 78-yard drive to tie the game at 7-7. Senior Christopher Jones capped the drive with a one-yard plunge into the end zone with 53 seconds left in the first quarter.
  • The Comets took a 14-7 lead on its first play of the second quarter when senior Braden Black scampered 23 yards into the end zone.
  • Freshman Douglas Pollard nailed a 37-yard field with three seconds left before halftime to make the score 16-7 at the break.
  • Olivet marched down the field on its first drive of the second half. Black ended the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run at the 10:39 mark.
  • The Comets capped their scoring with 6:10 left in the game when freshman Jeshua Wiese rushed into the end zone from a yard out. Junior Gunnar Aper made his third PAT kick of the game.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Olivet rolled up 403 yards of offense.
  • Black accounted for 315 of the yards, as he was 15-of-23 passing for 250 yards, and had 14 carries for 65 net yards and two touchdowns.
  • Senior Mitchell Bailey was the leading receiver with six catches for 123 yards.
  • Defensively, senior Chanler Carmer topped the team with seven total tackles.
  • Junior Walter Love III had six tackles.

FOR THE WARRIORS

  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 199 yards – four on the ground and 195 through the air.
  • Joshua Cason led the ground game with four rushes for 20 net yards.
  • Pat Mathieson completed 20-of-31 passes for 175 yards.
  • Theo Belhomme caught seven passes for 81 yards.
  • Larry Meeks and Logan Troutman had seven tackles apiece.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Comets improved to 7-2 all-time against the Warriors.

UP NEXT

  • Olivet has its bye week next Saturday and then opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play in two weeks, Oct. 1, at Hope College. Kickoff at Smith Stadium in Holland is 6 p.m.
