Britons stumble in Wisconsin

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored on three plays of 60 yards or longer as it earned a 50-13 victory over Albion College in a non-league football game.

Albion scored on its first possession, marching 80 yards in 16 plays for a 31-yard field goal by Andrew Fabry.

The Pointers scored the next two times it got the ball. Almonte returned the kickoff 91 yards after the Fabry field goal for a score and Jared Pankow was on the receiving end of a 13-yard pass from Kyle Larson.

UWSP poured it on in the second quarter, scoring 24 points. Larson threw scoring strikes of 74 yards to Almonte and 64 yards to Pankow.

Fabry added a 32-yard field goal late in the second quarter and Sam Blanzy scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 6-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Albion finished with 434 yards of offense. Starting quarterback Chad Hamilton completed 21 passes for 223 yards. Blanzy completed all three attempts in relief, throwing for 41 yards. Brian Blanzy was the leading receiver with 102 yards on eight receptions. Zach Serzo averaged a shade more than 6 ½ yards per carry (14 carries for 93 yards).

Geordon Carter led the Albion defense with nine tackles.

Albion returns to Wisconsin next weekend for a non-league contest at Lakeland College.
