Toms pull away to post 42-6 road victory

Senior QB Alex Fenske passed for 345 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions and  the No. 4-ranked Tommies (1-0) had six sacks and allowed just 134 net yards in Saturday night's 42-6 non-conference football road victory over UW-Eau Claire (0-1).

UST rolled up 467 yards on offense and outscored the Blugolds 42-0 in the final three quarters. It was St. Thomas' 20th consecutive game in which it scored 30 or more points.

The Toms also climbed to 17-0 in regular-season non-conference games under ninth-year coach Glenn Caruso.

Senior Nick Waldvogel had TD catches of 31 and 11 yards -- his 29th and 30th career TDs. He finished with seven catches for 115 yards.

Luke Iverson had five catches for 98 yards and one TD. Joe Reed had a 46-yard reception.

Senior Jordan Roberts had two short scoring runs and a hard-fought 62 net rushing yards. He added a 46-yard reception to finish with 108 yards of offense.

Fenske completed 17-of-28 passes before leaving after three quarters with a 35-6 lead. He averaged 20 yard per completion.

Sophomore QB Jacques Perra made his Tommie debut in the final quarter and threw a 13-yard TD pass to Iverson to close the scoring.

Senior Chris Pierson had an interception, senior Ryan Winter blocked an extra point, and 12 other Toms on defense had at least one sack or tackle for loss.

The Blugolds scored first on a 63-yard TD pass, but were held to 53 net yards and five first downs over the final three quarters.

The Toms open their home season Sept. 10 at home aganst UW-Stout.
