Hendrix Rolls to 55-23 Win Over Austin

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College football opened the 2016 campaign in a big way with a 55-23 victory over Austin College on Crafton-Faulkner Field at Young-Wise Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors, who received votes in the D3football.com Top 25 Preseason Poll, set several school records against the Kangaroos. Hendrix set new marks with 627 total offensive yards, 8.2 yards per play, eight touchdowns and six sacks. They also tied the school record with five rushing touchdowns and 13 tackles for loss.

Hendrix also scored the most points since they put 71 points in a shutout over Missouri Baptist (Poplar Bluff) in 1950.

The Orange & Black led 14-7 after the first quarter and 27-7 at half. The Warriors pushed the lead to 41-17 by the end of the third quarter before capping the game with a pair of TDs in the fourth.

Hendrix Notes
- Running backs Dayton Winn and Mason Millsap became the second tandem in school history to rush for 100 yards or more in the same game. Winn and quarterback Seth Peters both reached the mark against Southwestern University in 2013.
- Winn, an All-American last season, started his senior season with his 20th 100-yard game, netting 110 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries.
- Millsaps, a junior, rushed 14 times for 126 yards and two scores.
- Peters went 22-for-24 passing for 269 yards and two TDs. He set a new school record by completing 91.7 percent of his passes, including his final 17 attempts.
- Freshman Miles Thompson completed five passes for 72 yards, including a 22-yard score to freshman receiver Dustin McNeely.
- Sophomore Travis England recorded a career-high four catches for 53 yards and had a 21-yard rush.
- Senior Spencer Smith had a 40-yard touchdown catch and senior Taylor Tibbits had a 34-yard catch for a TD.
- On defense, freshman Chad McGonigal led the way with nine tackles, seven solo.
- Junior linebacker Jake Brantley had eight tackles, 2.5 for a loss of 13 yards, and 1.5 sacks.
- Senior defensive end Jake Falluer made three tackles, all for a loss, including a sack of four yards.
- Freshman Aric Sislo made an eight yard solo sack late in the game.
- Sophomore Collin Mayer also had a solo sack, while Ben Cunningham, Jared Goff and Jacob Buchanan were each responsible for half a sack.
- Senior cornerback Shaquille Grant had an interception return of 27 yards out of the endzone.
- In total, the defense made 13 tackles for a loss of 84 yards.

Austin Notes
- The 'Roos ran 79 plays for 394 yards.
- Quarterback Cooper Woodyard went 23-of-34 passing, for 271 yards, one touchdown and an interception.. He also rushed 11 times for 47 yards and a TD.
- Kyle Mucerino recorded seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
- Tre Jones rushed 10 times for 43 yards and a score and had four kick returns for 133 yards.
- Segun Adekunle and Charles Eneh each recorded eight tackles and one for a loss.
- Morris Shell also had eight tackles and half a tackle for loss.
- Hayden Schilling made four tackles, one for a loss.

Hendrix will travel to Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
