W&L's Michael LaSala Named to AP Little All-America Team

More news about: Washington and Lee

The Associated Press (AP) released its 2015 Little All-America football team on Thursday and Washington and Lee junior offensive lineman Michael LaSala (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) was among those recognized.

LaSala was a third team selection for the teams that recognize outstanding players who compete in NCAA Division II/III and NAIA.  He is the just the third General to earn AP Little All-America honors since 1978 and the first since Chris Sullivan '03 earned third team laurels in 2001.

He adds the honor to an already impressive list that includes First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-South Region and AFCA Division III First Team All-America accolades.  He was also named the Touchdown Club of Richmond's College Division Offensive Lineman of the Year.

LaSala started all 11 games at tackle in 2015 and helped lead the Generals' offense to the most prolific season in school history. W&L set a slew of records, including total offense (5,439 yds.), rushing offense (4,773 yds.) and points scored (417).  The Generals led all of college football with an average of 433.9 yards per game, as W&L produced the three best single-game rushing performances in Old Dominion Athletic Conference history.  W&L rushed for a school-record 649 yards in a season-opening 63-35 win over Averett, and added 508 rushing yards against Emory & Henry and 506 rushing yards against Bridgewater.

Washington and Lee finished the 2015 season with a 10-1 overall record.  The Generals set a school record for wins and completed their first undefeated regular season in 54 years.  W&L won the ODAC title advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Thomas More (51-21) in the opening round.
