SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore quarterback Shane Sweeney was 15 for 20 with four touchdowns and 305 yards to lead Hobart College to a 52-14 victory over host Union College at Frank Bailey Field Saturday. The Statesmen are 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Liberty League play while the Dutchmen are 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the league.

Brandon Shed had five receptions for a season high 179 yards and three touchdowns, while Conner Hartigan had 95 yards on 12 rushes for Hobart. The Statesmen had 581 yards in offense, including 276 on the ground, with 73 plays and held Union to 221 total yards.

Dante Cioffi was 19 for 39 with 205 yards and two touchdowns for the Dutchmen. Kyle Reynolds had 77 yards on 10 catches and Jake LaRovera made a career high 19 tackles including 12 assisted. Brad Tempel added 10 tackles for the Dutchmen, as Hobart's offense was on the field for 39:43 in the game.

Shed caught a season best 81 yard touchdown pass from Sweeney with 9:58 left in the first for the 7-0 lead, coming on the very first play of a drive. Union's Jermaine Carn caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Cioffi with 7:08 left to cap a seven play, 68 yard drive in 2:44 for a 7-7 score. But Sweeney found Shed deep again with four minutes remaining in the period, this time for a 48 yard catch that completed a seven play, 89 yard drive that took just 3:01. Hobat made it 21-7 with five seconds remaining in the period. With 3:54 left, Michael Harper intercepted a Union pass at the Dutchman-32. Seven plays and 30 yards later, Christopher Holoman ran it in from one yard out.

The Statesmen scored on their first two drives of the second quarter. Sean Kirshe's fifth field goal of the season was a 37 yarder with 7:11 left in the second to complete an 11 play drive that went 48 yards and consumed 5:50 off the clock. After forcing a four-and-out, Hobart went 64 yards on four plays in 2:01 and Bradley Burns rushed two yards for a 31-7 lead. Union took over with 1:03 left in the second quarter and went five plays and 53 yards. Joe Vito caugh a 28 yard pass from Cioffi with two seconds left and moments later the teams entered the half with Hobart leading, 31-14.

Jack Pfohl caught a 10 yard touchdown toss from Sweeney with 7:23 left in the third after a long, 11 play, 84 yard drive that took 5:43 for a 38-14 Hobart lead. Shed got his third of the day with 24 seconds remaining with a 41 yard touchdown pass from Sweeney, sealing an eight play, 55 yard drive that consumed five minutes and four seconds. Joe Letizia wrapped up the scoring with a six yard touchdown run 2:35 into the fourth quarter, the fifth play of a 26 yard, 2:26 drive.

Union plays at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on November 7, while Hobart hosts St. Lawrence on November 7. Both games have 12:00 p.m. kickoffs.
