Hope Football Falls To Alma 35-24

Junior Zac Boersema of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), posted his second 100-yard rushing game in a row, but the Hope College football team dropped its homecoming game to Alma 35-24 on Saturday at Smith Stadium.

Boersema finished with 115 yards rushing on 21 carries. He scored on touchdown runs of four and five yards.

Boersema has a career-high seven touchdowns this season.

Senior receiver Matt Kroll of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), moved within one reception of a fourth-place tie in the Flying Dutchmen's career leaders after making four catches for 66 yards and a 17-yard touchdown.

Kroll has 124 career receptions and passed Mike Gle on Saturday. Gle totaled 122 receptions between 1999-2001.

Kevin VandenBosch holds fourth place with 125 catches between 2004-07.

Kroll's 1,734 career receiving yards is eighth all-time. He is 42 yards from passing Jake Schrock (2001-04) for seventh place.

Hope fell to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Alma (4-3, 2-2 MIAA) never trailed. The Flying Dutchmen yielded a season-high 656 yards of total offense, including 441 yards passing.

Receiver Daniel Hugan totaled 235 yards receiving and 33 yards rushing for the Scots.

Senior Jake Helm of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), led Hope with 89 yards receiving on six catches. 

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 with Senior Day against Adrian at Smith Stadium. Kickoff for the regular-season home finale is 1 p.m.
