ALBION, Mich. – Albion College had escaped in games decided by a handful of points that one figured it may eventually get burned.

And that's what happened Saturday.

Gage Corner hauled in a33-yard touchdown pass on a slant route with 21 seconds left as Trine University completed a comeback from 17 points down for a 55-51 victory.

Albion led 51-34 when Mikal McKoy worked the sideline to haul in a 40-yard touchdown pass from Dominic Bona with 6:12 remaining.

Trine countered with a 4-play touchdown drive that took just 50 seconds. Brandon Rooze, filling in for starting quarterback Taylor Masiewicz who left the game in the first quarter, capped the drive with a 19-yard pass to Andrew Bonofiglio.

Mark Wilson, who rolled up a single-game record 327 rushing yards for Trine, scored on an 8-yard run with 1:09 left. Trine recovered the onside kick and scored the game-winning touchdown five plays later.

Albion picked up most of its yards through the air as Bona threw for 357 yards and five touchdowns. Joe Mayone hauled in five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Chris McCall and Jon Alandt also caught touchdown passes.

Running back Mike Czarnecki averaged eight yards per carry and Colin Parks, who averaged five yards per carry, scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter.

Geordon Carter led the Briton defense with 15 tackles and an interception.

Albion, 6-1 overall and 3-1 against MIAA rivals, will travel to Olivet College next Saturday.
