More news about: Case Western Reserve

The Case Western Reserve University football team celebrated Homecoming Weekend by breaking the 40-point mark for the fourth-straight week and improving to 4-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a 45-14 win over Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans, now 4-1 on the year and 4-0 in PAC games, remained tied atop the conference standings with 11th-ranked Thomas More College.  Waynesburg dropped to 2-4 on the year, with a 1-3 mark in the PAC.

Sophomore quarterback Rob Cuda accounted for a season-high six touchdowns in the win, running for three and throwing for another trio, with five of his six scores coming in the first half of play.  He completed 25-of-28 passes for 268 yards and ran for another 63.  Senior Bryan Erb led the team with nine receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while junior Brendan Lynch collected eight catches for 86 yards, including a score.

In total, Case Western Reserve finished the game with 581 total yards of offense, with 280 yards on the ground.  Meanwhile, the defense held the Yellow Jackets to just 201 total yards, including 110 passing yards.  Sophomore Cody Calhoun had a team-best four seven tackles, with one for a loss, and juniorNick Kwon registered his first interception of the campaign.

Cuda's first three touchdowns of the day all came on the ground, with scoring runs of five- and two-yards in the first quarter, and a 13-yard run early in the second that put the Spartans up 21-0.  Cuda hit Erb with an eight-yard touchdown pass with 9:39 left in the second, and Lynch with an 18-yard pass with 5:40 left in the frame, giving the Spartans a 35-0 advantage.

Waynesburg scored late in the half on a Willie Leavell six-yard touchdown reception, cutting the lead to 35-7, but the Spartans came out firing in the third, with Erb capping off a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a 26-yard catch in the end zone.  Sophomore Ben Carniol hit a 29-yard field goal with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter to push CWRU's lead to 45-7.  Austin Wilson broke off a 54-yard scoring run for Waynesburg with 3:40 left to play, but it would prove to be too little too late for the Yellow Jackets.

Cuda has now thrown for 16 touchdowns this season without an interception in 2015.  In his first year as a starter, he has completed 68.0% of his passes for 1,303 yards, and leads all Spartan players with 452 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns.

The Spartans' four-game winning streak is their longest since a 10-game streak between the 2011 and 2012 season, and their four-straight games with at least 40-points score in the longest such streak since the 2002 season.

The Spartans will look to keep their winning ways going when they head to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania next Saturday to face Geneva College at 7:00 p.m
