Kalamazoo wins 16-13 at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College football team won 16-13 at Millikin University on Saturday.

Millikin struck first with a field goal six minutes into the game, but Kalamazoo countered with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Alex Whiteto K.J. Schultz with 6:08 left in the first quarter.

Viet Nguyen made the first of three field goals on the day with 12:36 left in the second quarter to give Kalamazoo a 10-3 lead.

The host Big Blue blocked a punt and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown to even the score midway through the second. Millikin added a field goal with a minute left before half to take a 13-10 lead, but Kalamazoo was able to tie the game with Nguyen's 32-yard field goal with two seconds left in the half.

Nguyen's 34-yard field goal with 14:50 left in the fourth quarter proved to be the game winnner, as Millikin's 48-yard attempt with five seconds remaining came up short.

Kalamazoo put up 392 yards of total offense while limiting Millikin to just 266.

Alex White was 36-of-57 passing for 304 yards. K.J. Schultz led the team with 133 yards on 12 catches with the touchdown. Shon Powell made 12 catches for 82 yards.

Powell led the team in rushing with 75 yards on 21 carries.

Dylan Zerki led the defense with eight total tackles including three for loss. Quentin Sweeney was credited with seven tackles, two for loss, and an interception. Octavius Sanders and Hartlee Lucas also had interceptions.

Kalamazoo (1-1) plays its home opener next Saturday, Sept. 19 against Concordia (Ill.) (1-0) at 1 p.m.
